Summary
Engineer who co-founded and built SmartPass, K-12 student-safety software
used by 2M+ daily users, from first commit to a $10M ARR
business and its acquisition. I architected and wrote the core of the platform
before building the team around it. Having done the org-building, I'm deliberately back to
hands-on IC work: I'm at my best closest to the craft, going deep on hard systems problems.
Looking for product / infrastructure engineering on technically meaty,
mission-driven products, working async with globally distributed teams.
Experience
Raptor Technologies · Remote (NYC)
Dec 2024 - Mar 2026
- Joined post-acquisition to integrate SmartPass into Raptor Technologies.
- Led the integration as both tech lead and PM, deliberately pacing delivery to partner teams' real bandwidth to win genuine commitment: fewer engineering hours and lower opportunity cost despite a longer calendar.
SmartPass · New York, NY
2018 - Dec 2024
Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer
Acquired by Raptor Technologies
- Scaled the platform from 0 to 2M daily active users at 20k+ RPS while holding 99.99% uptime. Built on Go and GCP with real-time WebSockets and a modern Angular, TypeScript, and Tailwind frontend.
- Owned features end to end across infrastructure, backend, and frontend (the work I enjoy most), architecting and writing the core of the platform myself.
- Built the company's entire SRE practice from nothing: designed monitoring and alerting from first principles, stood up the on-call rotation, and traced non-obvious performance regressions through a sprawling legacy codebase to keep a 24/7 service reliable under heavy load.
- Drove ruthless prioritization across the team via spec reviews that accepted or rejected each bet by its "appetite," keeping engineering pointed at the highest-leverage work.
- Bootstrapped SmartPass from 0 to $2M ARR part-time (2018 to 2022), then went full-time and scaled it to $10M ARR on a single $2M seed from Reach Capital, staying hands-on in the codebase while building and leading the engineering team, and co-ran the exit with my co-founder.
DoltHub · Santa Monica, CA
2022 - 2023
- Worked on database internals for Dolt, the first version-controlled SQL database ("Git for data"), in Go, developing a first-principles sense of how databases work across the infrastructure, file/storage, query engine/parser, and wire-protocol layers.
- For Dolt's 1.0 release, rewrote the CLI against the new storage engine, reimplementing diffing of tables, rows, and schema, and merging of tables and schema.
- Worked alongside senior ex-Snapchat engineers under Tim Sehn (Snapchat's founding-era VP of Engineering through its IPO).
